Scholarship Overview  

The Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors and Phi Alpha Honor Society have partnered to deliver a scholarship program for undergraduate Phi Alpha members.  Each year, three  scholarships will be awarded.  They are: (1^st) $2,500, (2^nd) $2,000, and (3^rd) $1,500.

Awards are intended to help students with expenses related to their education.  The focus of the application is the student’s service, scholarship, and leadership.  The first place selection will be sponsored to present as part of the conference program at the BPD annual conference each spring.  Students must be members of Phi Alpha to apply.  Applications are due May 30th.  Awards are announced by September 1^st. 

• Applicants must be an undergraduate member in good standing of Phi Alpha Honor Society.

• Applicants must be enrolled: (1) when submitting the application and (2) the year following the award.

• Students may apply during their senior year if they will be enrolling in an MSW program the following year.

A complete application consists of: (1) Application form, (2) Chapter Advisor form, and (3) two Reference forms.  All application materials are submitted online.

Scholarship forms are submitted using the submit tab at the end of the forms.

(1) Application form – applicants provide identifying information and describe their involvement in service, scholarship, and leadership activities and career plans. 

(2) Chapter Advisor form – the Phi Alpha advisor for the applicant’s chapter must submit the Chapter Advisor form verifying the applicant is a current good-standing member of the chapter.  

(3) Reference forms – two reference forms must be submitted by persons familiar with the applicant.   Reference forms address aspects of the applicant’s service, scholarship, and leadership.  One of the letters may be from the Phi Alpha advisor.

  Please contact your references rather than Phi Alpha to 

      see whether these have been submitted.

· Chapter advisors from the winners’ schools will be contacted prior to issuing funds.

·  References and advisors may be contacted during the judging process.

· Awards are given directly to the student.

· The first place winner will receive transportation, lodging expenses and a food allowance to present their application during the student session of the BPD annual conference (Feb/Mar).

· Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

· Awards found to be made due to inaccuracies on the application will be revoked.
